The Importance of Being Present:
by J. David Hoke
Many
of you know that I
have resigned as the pastor of New Horizons Community Church,
and will be pursuing new opportunities. Currently, I am
polishing the rough draft of a PhD dissertation in the area of
Philosophical and Systematic Theology, which I hope to have in
the hands of my doctoral committee by the end of March. I am
also working with the Rancocas Valley Baptist Church in the
official capacity of Minister in Residence, in order to be of
help to this fine church, and my good friend, Wes Kent, the
senior pastor of the church.
As I seek God's guidance, I feel that it is important to
continue to maintain an ongoing presence on the Internet. So
many people from all over the world have written to me to tell
me how much they have benefited from the sermons I write that I
feel the need to "be present" to continue to provide resources
for those who can use them. It may be that the Lord will enable
me to expand what ministry he had given me on the Internet in
other ways.
Currently, I am now praying about the possibilities before me. I
have always had a heart to teach, as well as gifts in that area.
My passion is to teach those who have a heart for digging deep
into God's Word, and my desire is to develop leaders for the
church of the 21st Century.
This could
be in a church context or seminary/Bible College or Institute,
or even a local church large enough to desire more that just
Christian Education, but CE+, a quality CE program plus a local
church Bible Training Institute for the purpose of training
their leaders, and preparing those who want a deeper knowledge
of the great theology that has been so absent in many churches.
Besides my dissertation, which at least one publisher has shown
an interest in, I have two books that will be practical homiletical commentaries on Ephesians and Romans. Ephesians will
run about 350 pages and Romans over 500. In addition, I have a
few other books in me regarding issues in the contemporary
church that need to be addressed. I have had a desire to write
for some time. Many have commented on the sermons that I hope to
make available on the web site. So writing will be an option to be pursued whatever
else I do.
Please keep me in prayer, and if you care to contact me, I can
